Meet Kristen
Kristen Day serves as the Executive Director of Democrats For Life of America. Her political journey began at Michigan State University, where she was elected as a Precinct Delegate and worked for Democratic State Representative Rick Sitz. After graduating, she interned for Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and eventually became Chief of Staff for Congressman Jim Barcia (D-MI).
Kristen has championed pro-life and pro-family legislation, advocating for the inclusion of pro-life Democrats and conscience protections in the Democratic Platform. She played a key role in the Bipartisan House Pro-Life Caucus, establishing a whip operation to mobilize pro-life Democrats for critical votes.
In 2006, she published "Politics and the Culture of Life: Why I am Still a Democrat" in the Notre Dame Journal of Law and Public Policy, arguing for a broader life ethic addressing poverty, the death penalty, and assisted suicide. Kristen developed the "95-10" proposal to reduce abortions by 95% in ten years, endorsed by James Carville and Paul Begala in Take It Back: Our Party, Our Country, Our Future. Parts of the plan, including the Pregnancy Assistance Fund, were incorporated into the Affordable Care Act.
A published author and speaker, Kristen’s book, Democrats For Life: Pro-Life Politics and the Silenced Majority, chronicles the pro-life Democrat movement. She has appeared on NPR, FOX News, MSNBC, and other outlets, with her work featured in the LA Times, Washington Post, and National Review.
